I started the Blankets of Grace Project to honor my daughter and to give to those in similar situations. My daughter was given to me at the hospital in a towel, which was heartbreaking. I hand sewed a dress for her funeral service so that she would be laid to rest with dignity. I want to make sure families dealing with something so difficult know that we care, we understand, they aren't alone...and we want to provide them with something special because their child matters.
I have the unfortunate experience of being a member of the group nobody wants to belong to--I'm a mommy to Angel babies.
My daughter, Angel Grace Ann, was stillborn on May 26, 2010. I have also suffered several other losses--a loss in 1991, an ectopic pregnancy on 5/18/1999, a miscarriage on 9/11/2010, a blighted ovum on 12/22/2010, and another miscarriage on 4/29/2011. I finally had my second successful pregnancy and delivered my second son in February of 2012. It was an interesting journey but worth all of it to deliver another screaming baby! I have two little boys that I consider miracles and I feel very fortunate to have the best title in the world, "Mommy!"
Because of the difficulty in finding support through the loss of my daughter and miscarriages and some of the challenging experiences I've had on this journey, I've become very passionate about raising awareness about this cause. Hopefully, I can help to educate people, break the silence for grieving families, and help to increase fundraising toward preventing some of these losses from occurring.
OTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT THIS CAUSE
Everyone is invited to light a candle on October 15 at 7pm in ALL Time Zones, ALL over the world. If everyone lights a candle at 7pm and keeps it burning for at least one hour, there will be a continuous WAVE OF LIGHT over the entire world on October 15, Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Day in loving memory of babies who have passed away.
